***IN THE NEWS:  HOW DID YOU REGISTER??

Party portion of Voter Registration card

Voter Registration and  the American Independent Party have been in the news lately.  Many people have mistakenly registered as "American Independent" thinking that they are "Independent".  The term "Independent" is not used any longer.  If you do not wish to belong to any party you check the box to the right on your voter registration card that says "No, I do not want to disclose a political party preference".  You will be registered as "No Party Preference" or "NPP".  What this means in a California Presidential Primary, is that you will not have any Presidential Candidates on your ballot, but you will have every other race and measure.  You will be able to vote for everything except President.  As an NPP voter in the 2016 Presidential Primary you may request a ballot for one of the following parties:  American Independent, Democratic and Libertarian as they allow "cross over" voters.  If you wish to cast your ballot for any of the other Presidential Candidates in this primary you must register with their party.  The General Election in November is different, you may vote for any Presidential Candidate, regardless of party.

The deadline to register to vote in the June Primary is May 23.
